Corrective Chiropractic Program

According to the Association of Chiropractic Colleges, chiropractic is: “…a healthcare discipline that emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health. In addition, doctors of chiropractic recognize the value and responsibility of working in cooperation with other health care practitioners when in the best interest of the patient.”
Burlison Clinic treats many children and families using safe and gentle techniques.
Caring for your nervous system
In order to truly understand what chiropractic does, it will help if you understand how the body and nervous system works. It all starts with the brain. It will help if you think of the brain as a computer that controls the body. The nervous system is the network that sends the messages from the brain to the rest of the body.
Now, here is where the spine fits in. The nervous system sends these messages via the spinal cord. The spinal cord is not your actual backbone (vertebra), but the cord that runs within the bones in your back. It contains threadlike nerves that branch out to every organ and body part.
We use a combination of chiropractic and physical therapy to create massive change in our clients back pain.
When a message comes in to the brain, the brain then tells the body how to react. For instance, if you touch a hot stove with your hand, the pain message is sent to your brain, where the signal to quickly pull away is sent through the spine and out to the hand. All of this is done very quickly.
Although you can take several courses to understand the nervous system completely, all you really need to know is that every cell, tissue and organ of your body is controlled by your nervous system through communication. When this communication is working correctly, your body is healthy and healing correctly. When it is interfered with, this causes dysfunction and stress to the body which overtime can lead to symptoms and disease.
For over 15 years, we have been using gentle upper-cervical adjustments to relieve migraines and neck pain.
Chiropractic prevents symptoms
Since these nerves are so close to many structures and can be easily irritated by light pressure, they are extremely vulnerable. So to keep this to the point, chiropractors specialize in minimizing structural pressure on vital nerve tissue. Nerves that are not treated can develop symptoms such as:
- Pain, tenderness, soreness or stiffness of the neck
- Pain, tenderness, soreness or stiffness of the back
- Headaches / migraines
- Feeling dizzy
- Muscle spasms in the spine
- Tightness or weakness of spinal muscles
- Loss of range of motion in the neck and back
- Pain, numbness or tingling in the arms or legs
- Pain or stiffness in the joints
- Lack of energy
- Inability to heal quickly
- Poor overall health
And this is just to name a few!
We have multiple chiropractors on staff. Here is Dr. Bond working on a side-posture adjustment.
